Summerset House

Because I actually can spell, it just feels like summer in London. Or at least it did. And I arrived in a tropical Paris yesterday and practically boiled in the heat. Only to wake up today to comparatively subzero temperatures and grey skies (apparently London's equally grim). But this was the beginning of the week, and a beautiful installation in the courtyard at Somerset House - I think the weather did it justice, and the impact would be lost in bleaker weather. 






There are hundreds of plaster cast flowers on rusted iron stems (I think) but it's quite hard to see because you're not allowed on the grass...

The things I've occupied myself with between soul-destroying revision: sending Valentine's cards, trying to get my dog to be my valentine (he wasn't interested), visiting Yayoi Kusama at the Tat Moderne, sitting on my bed with a candle in the beautiful sunshine, reading I Capture the Castle and i-D, playing about with designs for this fabric, collecting my thoughts and starting a wee projet which I'm off to continue...

Making this short film recently, reminded me of Ralph Steiner's wonderfully hypnotic 'Mechanical Principles' from 1930 - I could sit watching it in a dark room on a huge screen with really good quality speakers on a loop. He discovered something so calming within something so loud and industrial M X
